Description

The Allyship Shift: What Leadership Requires Now
A two-part series
Wednesday, May 27 and Wednesday, June 3
12 - 1:15 pm via Zoom

Across workplaces and communities, leaders are navigating a moment defined by polarization, fatigue, and widening gaps in understanding. Yet the call to show up for one another with clarity, courage, and consistency has never been more urgent.

This two‑part Ally Couch series invites participants to dive deep and examine what allyship requires right now: how we advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion with colleagues who may not understand its importance, and how we move from intention to meaningful action.

We are honored to welcome two nationally respected leaders in organizational equity:
  • Su Joun, Principal, Diversity@Workplace Consulting Group; author, educator, nationally recognized DEI strategist, and TBC member.
  • Angela Clark, Chief of Organizational Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and adjunct professor at Boston College.
Together, they will guide us through a candid, practical, and forward‑looking exploration of allyship in this moment.

Session One
Advocating for DEI When Others Don’t See the Need
Wednesday, May 27 | 12:00–1:15 PM
This opening session will ground us in the realities of today’s workplace: shifting expectations, rising resistance, and the emotional labor often carried by those committed to equity.
Through real‑world examples and facilitated dialogue, participants will explore:
  • Why DEI remains essential even when it is misunderstood or minimized
  • How to respond when colleagues question the value or relevance of equity work
  • How power, identity, and proximity shape our ability to advocate effectively
  • The difference between performative allyship and principled, accountable practice

Su Joun is one of the most respected and sought‑after voices in diversity, equity, and inclusion today. As the Principal of Diversity@Workplace Consulting Group, she partners with organizations across industries to build equitable systems, inclusive norms, and fair processes that strengthen workforce culture and performance. Her work is known for being pragmatic, deeply informed, and grounded in both research and lived experience. Su brings a uniquely comprehensive leadership background. Before founding her consulting practice, she served as the Vice President of Talent, Diversity & Inclusion at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, where she led enterprise‑wide strategies across recruiting, performance management, leadership development, and associate engagement. Her earlier career spans IT and operations, marketing, sales, and product management, giving her a rare cross-functional lens on how equity must be embedded across an organization rather than siloed.

Angela Clark brings deep, cross‑sector experience in organizational equity and culture change. She currently serves as the Chief of Organizational Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, where she leads strategies to strengthen equity and belonging for a workforce serving more than seven million residents across the Commonwealth. Angela is also an adjunct professor at Boston College, where she teaches Managing Diversity in Organizations. Her approach is grounded, practical, and deeply human — offering leaders tools they can use immediately to strengthen allyship and advance equity. Her previous leadership roles include: Head of Inclusion, Equity & Belonging at Robinhood, where she designed and led enterprise‑wide equity initiatives, and 23 years with Fidelity Investments as Vice President and Diversity & Inclusion Leader, shaping enterprise DEI strategy.

Christy Egun is a seasoned nonprofit executive with over two decades of experience driving mission-aligned strategy, leading organizational transformation, and championing equity-centered initiatives. Christy is an active member and co-chair of TBC’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Joanne Derr is an Executive Coach and former vice president of Human Resources across multiple industries where she spearheaded diversity, equity and inclusion strategies and diversity committees. Joanne is an active member and co-chair of TBC’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.
