Nanette Fridman, Effect Collective  
Nanette Fridman co-founded Effect Collective to help nonprofit and corporate leaders and team members do the work that matters most. Effect Collective is a one-stop shop for strategy, facilitation, coaching, training, and speaking services on leadership & team development, governance, strategic planning, fundraising, and more. Before launching Effect Collective, Nanette founded and led Fridman Strategies, Inc. for nearly 20 years. During that time, she helped thousands of leaders across North America—from small start-ups to large international organizations—advance their missions and maximize their impact.
 
Known for her good humor and high energy, Nanette is a frequent keynote speaker, trainer, and facilitator. A nationally recognized nonprofit expert, she is the author of Holding the Gavel: What Nonprofit Board Leaders Need to Know and On Board: What Current and Aspiring Board Members Must Know About Nonprofits & Board ServiceEarlier in her career, Nanette worked as a corporate attorney and as a national field director for an advocacy organization. Originally from Rhode Island, Nanette earned her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, and Masters in Public Policy from Georgetown University. She received her BA, summa cum laude, in political science from Tufts University. She also studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Nanette is honored to be a Harry S. Truman Scholar.
 
Nanette has held many volunteer leadership roles in the greater Boston community and beyond. She lives in Newton, Massachusetts with her husband and two children.

Carmen Duarte, Board Member, United South End Settlements
Carmen Duarte is Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Social Impact for Intact Insurance’s U.S. operations. In this role, she focuses on nurturing an inclusive culture and mindset where all stakeholders may thrive and achieve their full potential. Additionally, she enables employee generosity targeting local nonprofits that build economic resiliency through strategic oversight of community engagement.
 
Carmen joined Intact through one of its legacy companies in an HR capacity, where she assumed positions of increasing responsibility. She concluded her HR tenure as Director of Compensation & Benefits to establish the company’s Corporate Communications function. Her portfolio expanded to include Marketing, where she led major initiatives, such as rebranding the company three times due to a merger and two subsequent acquisitions. She served as Intact’s U.S. DEI champion and became fully dedicated to inclusion and social impact in 2021. She has received several industry DEI awards, including the American Property Casualty Insurance Association’s 2023 Expanding Opportunity in Insurance Conference Individual Award and the 2022 National Underwriter/PropertyCasualty360 Luminaries Award for DEI Innovation.
 
A graduate of Hobart & William Smith Colleges, Carmen additionally earned a Master of Business Administration from Boston University. She serves as a Trustee of the Intact Charitable Trust USA and co-chairs the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation’s IDEA Council. Within the Boston community, Carmen serves as Board Chair of United South End Settlements (USES). She also serves on The Boston Club’s Leadership Council and volunteers as a Visitor Information Specialist at the Museum of Fine Arts.
 
Pam Murray, Board member, EMPath
Leading global financial services firms, pathfinding non-profits, and generous families, have relied on Pam Murray in progressively larger stewardship roles to innovate and drive change, strengthen governance, streamline processes and operations, and lead with integrity and humor—all with an eye to improving performance and bringing about positive change. Pam is a leader, manager, collaborator, and mentor with the curiosity and appetite to take on new situations, ideas, and challenges, frame strategies, motivate people, solve problems, and learn and change on the go. She is a highly regarded coach and public citizen whose record of community service includes work as the chair and primary architect of a merger of two venerable Boston non-profits into EMPath, a groundbreaking national model that builds paths to economic self-sufficiency for women and their families. She is an active member of local and national communities and organizations focused on social justice, political engagement, and public art.  And she is a constant and highly regarded mentor, helping women in both the for-profit and independent sectors. In all her work, the common thread is an ability to inspire and lift people, prioritize and align people and goals, and motivate them to focus and finish. A native of Upstate New York, Pam earned an A.B. from Georgetown University and has participated in the SIA Program at The Wharton School.
